The Chambers Room is on the southeast front of the house. It has a full private bath a view of N. Chambers St. The white marble fireplace is one of the two original fireplaces. Enjoy the close-up view of the ionic columns, and the distant sound of trains. This is the warmest bedroom in the house.
The Great House of Galesburg was built in 1857 by Silas Willard and Cordelia Chambers Willard. They purchased 11 acres from Hiram Kellogg, the first president of Knox College, and built the house on unbroken prairie. Silas was instrumental in bringing the CB&Q Railroad to Galesburg, which directly resulted in a boom in Galesburg’s growth in population and economy. The majestic home with ionic white pillars is one of Galesburg’s most recognizable home since the early days of the city.
The 4,700 square foot home has four bedrooms for rent, each with a private full bathroom, refrigerator, TV, and unique décor. Choose one of the completely private rooms – the Executive, Chambers, Craftsman, or Innkeeper’s, or rent the entire home. There is an area at the top of the stairs for coffee, water, and light snacks.
As a guest you may use the two living rooms, dining room and kitchen. The library serves as an office, but you are welcome to tour it. The vault is primarily for storage, but please look around, as it has plenty of history. You are expected to leave everything as you found it and clean up after yourself.
The home is in a beautiful residential neighborhood, with downtown shopping and dining within walking distance.
This is a beautiful home, and we love to show you around. You are welcome to explore and spend time on the first floor. Coffee and water are available for guests on the landing at the top of the stairs.
The guests have a key to the front door, The same key works on the back entrance, closest to the driveway. Guests also have one key for their bedroom.
In addition to the two keys, the Airbnb guest will receive an automatic message from the August app. That message includes a door code that works on the front door keypad.
This fee includes use of the house by the overnight guests, up to two. Please inquire if you are interested in using the first floor as an event space.
